Packard Proving Grounds to host Mother’s Day brunch

packard-proving-grounds-wedding-shelby-charter-mi-3_main-1435188387UTICA — From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 14, families are invited to participate in a Mother’s Day brunch event at the Packard Proving Grounds.

The event will feature a custom-made menu by Vince & Joe’s Fruit Market, live classical music and tours of the historical site. The cost is $35 for adults, $12 for kids ages 12 and younger, and free for kids ages 5 and younger.

Packard Proving Grounds Event Coordinator Mary Anne Demo said many of the events held at the site are private weddings or car shows.

“Up until now, a lot of the history was geared toward men with car shows, and I think the women would appreciate the history as well,” Demo said. “We thought if somebody was looking for something to do with Mom, this would be a neat place with a relaxed pace.”

She said the brunch is all-you-can-eat, the music will be provided by flutist Barbara Ogar’s trio, and participants will be free to wander around and take tours of the historical buildings, as well as hitch rides up and down the boulevard in classic Packard automobiles.

Executive Chef Angelo Loria, who works at the Shelby Township Vince & Joe’s, said he wants the experience to be similar to his family get-togethers, where everyone brings a dish.

“(I opted for) things that people enjoy — not just filler items that no one touches,” Loria said. “My family is coming (to the brunch) as well. It’s a good way to celebrate with them and give Mom a break for Mother’s Day.”

He said he is excited for the event at the Packard Proving Grounds.

“It’s a gem,” he said. “People and their families will be able to have a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere, and take tours and rides in the cars.”

Entree selections include French toast casserole, house-made breakfast sausage, quiche, cheese blintzes, scrambled eggs, country potatoes and a spiral-sliced ham carving station. Additional selections include a smoked salmon platter, house-made breakfast pastries, a cheese platter and fruit salad. Beverages include an espresso bar and fresh-squeezed orange juice.

The Packard Proving Grounds is located at 49965 Van Dyke Ave., between 22 Mile and 23 Mile roads. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (586) 739-4800, email or, or search for “Mother’s Day Brunch at the Packard Proving Grounds” on
